Saskatoon dental implant |
If you are missing a single tooth, one implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root. Because a dental implant will replace your tooth root, the bone is better preserved. Dental implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact. Your dental professional will do a thorough examination and x-rays to determine if you are a good candidate for implants. There are two stages to the surgery. First, your dental professional will insert a dental implant into the jawbone under the gum tissue. The gum tissue is sutured together and allowed to heal. This can often take several months. During that time the implant will attach to the gum and bond with the bone. Once the tissue is healed, you will receive a second surgery where the dentist will attach an abutment to the implant. This is the post that will attach the replacement tooth to the implant. Sometimes, both the first and second stages of surgery may occur in one operation. After this is completed, an artificial tooth is created for you and it is attached to the post. It may take multiple appointments to properly fit this tooth.
